Take A Hike
A freelance writer specialising in active outdoor pursuits, I have written a number of walking guidebooks, including titles for Cicerone and Pocket Mountains. I am a regular contributor to the Wild Walks section of The Great Outdoors magazine and pen a weekly walking column for The Courier.
My weekly walking column in The Courier Weekend magazine supplement began on March 29, 2014, with a route visiting Loch Shandra and Auchintaple Loch, Glen Isla, Angus.
Each week Take a Hike features a new walk route in 'Courier Country' - east central Scotland. Illustrated with an eye-catching half page photograph, the column - a full tabloid page - includes a step by step guide to the walk, practical information and an Ordnance Survey map extract.
Over the weeks and months I've filed routes from across the region (at the end of 2019, Take a Hike celebrated its 300th route). Covering a variety of different grades of difficulty and lengths, the walks range from easy low level strolls to more demanding upland hikes through some of Scotland's most spectacular scenery.
Angus is the historical heartland of Scotland, a county where the past has left an indelible mark on the present.
Prehistoric forts, ancient castles and Pictish standing stones dot a rich and varied landscape where bracing coastal hikes, tranquil riverside rambles, sheltered woodland wanders and more challenging hill ascents await the walker.
Angus and Dundee - 40 Coast and Country Walks combines exploration of the county’s stunning coastline where rocky cliffs and coves reveal swathes of golden sand, with gentle inland trails and more adventurous forays into the celebrated Angus Glens where the terrain is altogether wilder and more dramatic.
Walking in the Angus Glens is a guidebook to 30 walks in the Angus Glens; north of Dundee and south of the Cairngorms.
Covering the five Glens of Isla, Prosen, Clova, Lethnot and Esk with routes for competent walkers to explore remote upland areas.
These walks will take you to Munro peaks, glacial valleys, craggy corries, forests and lochs, and treat you to fabulous views.
